Texas man’s federal civil suit again claims police unjustified shooting

A 31-year-old man  paralyzed from the chest down as a result of an officer-involved shooting in January says he has video proof that he was unarmed during the encounter.

Paul Anthony Valderas filed a civil rights lawsuit Wednesday in federal court against the Lubbock Police Department and is seeking $20 million in damages, claiming the officer’s use of force was unjustified.

Valderas suffered three gunshot wounds in the back by a Lubbock police special operations officer who was part of a Jan. 26 operation aimed at serving him an arrest warrant in connection with a narcotics investigation
